If we were to beak down the systems into individual components and follow the flow of events from the consumer placing an order to the arrival of the order at their doorstep, the procedure at a low complexity level of events would be as follows.
1. Consumer browsers the e-commerce web site, selecting their desire parts, once all the parts have been chosen, they can follow the shopping carts systems, and fill out all the necessary details.
2. The order arrives on the shopping cart administration system in around 10 seconds from the time it has been placed. Once details have been verified, such as correct form of contact and valid visa card number, the order is then sent to the warehouse for packaging.
3. The order is then packaged, with any items which are out of stock place on backorder.
4. Once packed, an invoice is written up, and sent to the accounts department where the visa card is charged.
5. The parcel is then ready for shipment, and is sent the same day as its arrival to the awaiting customer.
